dothan's thread made me realize mine never got written. different truck, much shorter delivery.

2021 Volvo VNL 760. D13 at 500, I-Shift 12 speed, 532,000 miles. the bank had it parked in a yard in Nampa, about 240 miles from my house, listed on m&a auto sales. i bid 47,250 sealed and won it the second week of June.

why a high roof 760 for a flatbed, when every flatbedder i know wants a mid roof? price, honestly. the 740 mid roofs with similar miles were 58 to 64 at the dealers in Boise and Salt Lake this spring, and the high roofs sit longer on lots because open deck guys do not want them. i lose maybe a tenth of a mpg on wind with nothing behind me to fill the gap, and i gain a bunk i can stand up in.

old truck was a 2014 Pete 386 with an ISX and 1.1 million. sold it for 29 to a farmer in American Falls who wanted a tractor for hauling his own spuds.

i am a Detroit guy mostly but i see plenty of D13s. at 532k, ask what has been done to the aftertreatment. if there is no record of a DPF ash cleaning, plan on one now, most shops get 600 to 900 for it. and pull the fault history, not just the active codes. stored codes tell you what the last driver lived with.

also check whether the old fleet left its customer parameters locked. that one costs people a dealer visit.

this is the version of buying used i can get behind. 47 for a 532k Volvo off the m&a listing and no lease contract hanging off it. the trucks in my old lease purchase program were 760s and the bunk is the best thing about them.

how did you handle insurance between winning and the truck showing up? that part scares me more than the truck.

marcus, you were right on both.

no DPF record anywhere. had it cleaned at a shop in Pocatello the week it came, 780. and the old fleet had its own password on the customer parameters. road speed set at 62 and the I-Shift locked in its economy mode on every grade. the Volvo dealer in Idaho Falls charged an hour and a half to reset it and set the governor at 68. dumb money but not much of it.

regret, insurance. i called my agent the day i won with the VIN off the listing and had it added as a scheduled unit effective the day the M and A invoice said it would ship. it cost me eleven days of premium on a truck i was not driving yet. worth it. the delivery driver needs to hand it to somebody who has it insured.

Nampa to Pocatello is nothing, how long did the m&a people take to get it to you? mine was 13 days from the wire.

and did yours still have the fleet's transponder on the windshield? mine had an old PrePass box velcroed up there that still beeped at every scale. took me a week to figure out it was not mine.

on your own authority with a newer truck than you had, call your agent about the physical damage number too. the stated value on the old Pete was probably 30. if you leave it there on a truck you paid 47 for and it burns, they pay you 30.

and the D13 with the I-Shift in the hills out there, i hear nothing but good about it. i still row 18 gears and i will die doing it.

two months in.

delivery was 12 days from the wire, which seemed long for 240 miles until i remembered they have to schedule a driver either way. dothan, no transponder, but there was a fleet fuel card in the visor that the lender had cancelled. lou, physical damage was still at 30, you saved me there. bumped it to 47 for 41 more a month.

fuel is 6.8 on lumber out of Lewiston and pipe out of Pocatello, the Pete did 6.1. nothing has broken. the one thing i would change is my timing. it arrived right as the June rush slowed down, so i paid for an idle truck and the old one for a week of overlap. if i did it again i would bid in March so it shows up for the first good loads. mandaautollc.com had more listings up in spring than now anyway, for what that is worth.
